My reenlistment bonus just hit and I now have everything I need to provide full professional quality photography. But I won't take pictures for payment, as I love photography, and I don't want it to become a "job", I never want it to be something I have to do. But what I will do is provide professional photography to anyone who makes a donation to the Wounded EOD Warrior Project: [link] . There is no minimum, you get a tax deduction, the money goes to a good cause, and because it's something I really care about, you get my passion along with my skill. I'm clueless when it comes to the pro business model so I'm not interested in charging for print packages and the like, you get full rights to, and electronic copies of any photo I take. Family portraits, senior portraits, prom; you name it, I can shoot it.
The only caveat being that it will take a sizable donation to get me to shoot for you outside of Northern California, gas is expensive and I have a finite amount of leave. Also, for something as important as a wedding, I would advise that you get a "Real" photographer as long as you're not strapped for cash. I'm pretty sure I'd do a damn fine job, but you don't want your wedding photographer to deal in "pretty sure's".
I'm putting this up on DeviantArt, not because I expect to drum up any business, but because I know a lot of people here who are good enough to "turn pro" but for whatever their own reasons, don't. I think that by following my model and shooting for a charity they favor, they can turn the corner and gain confidence to make a living from their passion.
