Woe and dismay! My poor camera has sustained a wound. The damage appears to be limited to the LCD screen though, so it will be as if I'm shooting film until I can get the nice folks at Nikon to perform surgery.
The D200 IR convert saw the whole thing and is inconsolable. I think he blames himself.
Yeah. I once read a review that rated the durability of the D3 as "Combat" out of 4 stars. I would suggest that this rating be changed to "Almost Combat".
Yeah, it was kick in the Jimmy that's for sure. On the plus, side, since Nikon uses the same LCD in many cameras, the repair will be a lot more manageable than I feared. Though I'd certainly not turn up my nose if Nikon wanted to reward me for literally combat testing their products.
I really think you could get some sort of achievement award of some-sort....if not a body, a gift card would be nice! I bet as a photojournalist, you might have these sorts of awards available to you. It just seems like somewhere out there, there's a way to get credentials, you know?
Maybe, though I'm totally not a photojournalist. I'm just your run of the mill hobbyist that happens to be in the military. Maybe send them photos of the damage and then pictures I took with it after the damage and expound on how awesome a camera is that can still take good photos after taking that kind of a beating.
