Just so you know, this was one of my top three in the contest. It has an emotive quality that I can't exactly define. . .

How and where is this tree?

I'm not sure, but I think it's a California Laurel, a fairly common riparian tree where I'm based. This tree is on a very small island in a lake that flooded this spring. The lake is in an unused area on Beale Air Force Base, of all places, north of Sacramento in central California.

This photo is taken with IR light, which acts a little differently from visible light especially where foliage is concerned, it gives it a sort of otherworldly quality.

Swift,
Hope that's what you wish to be called? I kept coming back to this one whilst viewing your galleries, I've found when I do that there's a reason. This time there is a feeling of sheer "magic" to this. I would implore you to submit it to more clubs your photography warrants a larger audience.
Thanks for sharing this inspirational shot.
